Art+Science Talks: Svetlana Sidorova

Ars Techne x Studio 20 Collective were pleased to host an Art+Science Talk with media and science artist and curator of ‘bjij’ gallery, Svetlana Sidorova.
Working at the intersection of art, ecology, and technology, Sidorova develops installations, video works, and bioart projects that translate scientific research into accessible and engaging visual forms. Originally from St. Petersburg and based in Yerevan, she previously collaborated with the art group bioroboty019, creating works that rendered complex biological and environmental processes tangible for diverse audiences. Her practice is marked by clarity, critical reflection, and subtle irony.
Holding a Master’s degree in Art & Science from ITMO University, her projects include NO GROWTH (2021), which works with genetically modified bacteria to reflect on growth and limitation; Physarum Fortuneteller (2020), exploring resonances between biological and computational intelligence; and Border Fluid (2023), presented at ICA Yerevan, addressing shifting identities and geopolitical boundaries. In Mediations on Rivers and Canals (2022), she transformed scientific interviews into podcasts and a Telegram bot, expanding ecological discourse through digital tools.
Alongside her artistic work, Sidorova brought extensive experience as a curator and art manager, coordinating interdisciplinary teams and producing exhibitions and public programs across media art institutions.
During the talk, she offered insights into the histories of science art, outlined her artistic methodology, reflected on working with living systems and scientific research, and opened a discussion on how artistic practice can critically engage with today’s ecological and technological realities.
The evening concluded with an engaged dialogue and exchange among participants.
